THE VISION BEHIND OUR CHARACTER SEMI

With just two bedrooms, one awkward little bathroom, a tricky kitchen layout and a teeny disconnected alfresco area, our Character Semi was overflowing with charm … just not a lot of wriggle room.

No space to go up, and no space to go out meant extending wasn’t an option.

But what this home lacked in size was compensated for by something far more valuable.

Beautiful bones.

Original timber windows, decorative ceiling roses and elegant archways that have stood the test of time set the tone for this renovation.

Rather than reinventing the home, we chose to honour its historical elegance and improve its flow and liveability through thoughtful planning.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Of course, as with every Three Birds project, we wouldn’t dream of starting without a vision board. It’s always our very first step and helps bring the feeling, personality and direction of the home to life before the renovation even begins. (You can read more about how we create our vision boards here.)

This little semi comes with its fair share of challenges. The kitchen sits at the back of the home, disconnected from the courtyard. The bathroom is compact, and with no opportunity to extend, every square metre has to work harder.

But that's exactly what excites us.

We're looking forward to showing how clever planning, thoughtful design and a few strategic layout changes can completely transform the way a home lives, without losing the character that made us fall in love with it in the first place.

Our vision is to restore and celebrate the beautiful period features that make this semi so special, while improving the flow of the floorplan.

Then we’ll layer in warmth through considered colour, natural textures and timeless finishes, taking cues from the home's heritage so even the newly renovated spaces feel like they've always belonged.

The result should be a sanctuary that feels brighter, warmer and beautifully suited to modern life.
