THE VISION BEHIND HOUSE 18
Before we start designing any of our homes, we always create a vision board. It’s where we bring together the references and big ideas that will guide every decision to come. Before there are floor plans, finishes or furniture, we want to be clear on one thing: how do we want this home to feel?
And with House 18, the answer came to us pretty quickly.
She started life as a tired little home, but there was so much more here than first met the eye. Set on a beautiful block with loads of potential, House 18 got us seriously excited.
The big opportunity? Bring the light in.
The original home was dark and closed off to natural light. Our vision was all about letting the sunshine in to create a home that felt warm, inviting and ideal for family life.
And that’s how the name of House 18 - Maison Soleil - was born.
So, what does Maison Soleil mean?
Literally? House of Sun.
THE VISION BOARD
With the way we wanted Maison Soleil to feel taking shape in our minds, the next step was to interpret that feeling visually.
This is exactly what we teach in our Reno School: start collecting the images you’re instinctively drawn to, then step back and look for the common thread.
For House 18, we kept coming back to light-filled spaces, courtyards, lush greenery, strong architectural forms and beautiful natural textures. Warm, layered and elevated yet still relaxed and welcoming.
That’s the magic of a vision board. Once all those images come together, the feeling of the home suddenly becomes so much clearer.
