LAUNDRY GOALS: WHERE FORM MEETS FUNCTION

It seems to us that you’re either a laundry person or you’re not. Bonnie’s a laundry person, Erin’s a laundry person... Lana is not. She’s a workaholic, just not the domestic type! That’s why we’re so puzzled by her unbelievable sheet folding skills! Have you seen her demo? Like seriously, where did she learn that?

It turns out that Lou’s a laundry person too and a dream laundry room was high on her wishlist for her new home.

Gone are the days that the laundry is the small, damp room relegated to a dark corner of the house. We love to create laundries that are a pleasure to be in. Ones you might even want to sneak into with a coffee, shut the door behind you, pull up a stool and watch those washers whirl while you sip your hot caffeiney goodness in peace… and your family will be none the wiser!

The brief for Louisa’s laundry was for one that works as good as it looks, that has substance, as well as style. Lucky for Lou, we found so many fabulous products to bring this luxe laundry vision to life.

ELEVATED APPLIANCES

No more bending down - we lifted these Electrolux washing machines and dryers off the floor so they were at a much more comfortable height. They’re surrounded by a wall of push-touch cupboards for masses of slimline storage.

TILES

Lana’s called it, these are her “fave tiles ever” and we all agree they’re pretty special!

The team at TileCloud have outdone themselves with our brief for these babies. They took our laundry vision board and literally went searching to bring it to life #dreamteam. The combo of mosaic stars and crosses is to die for and they feel so textured and old-worldly under bare feet.

CABINEtRY

This house is big enough to handle different cabinetry profiles throughout so in the laundry Ronnie from Carrera by Design worked his magic to create a thin shaker profile in a gorgeous biscuity colour called Stone Master by Dulux.

Finished off with burnished brass handles, these cabinets look good but it’s what’s behind them that adds to how fabulously functional they are. The washing baskets pull out like drawers, there are cupboards for the ironing board and vacuum cleaner and there’s even a sneaky built-in pop-out washing rack to dry your delicates.

PLENTY OF BENCH SPACE

There’s bench space aplenty for practicality and we chose the stunning Talostone Calacatta Gold to make it look pretty too. It has the classic look of Calacatta marble with an antique white background and subtle golden veins throughout which tie in perfectly with the handles and tapware.

Talostone is a premium engineered stone product which means it’s highly durable, making it ideal for high-usage areas like kitchens, bathrooms and laundries.

We carried the stone up the splashback and onto the shelf (extra storage plus styling space in one) where it meets the Axon cladding for our favourite classic, textured look. Axon is a fibre cement product so it’s great to use in wet spaces.

WINDOWS & DOORS

Our love of louvres carries on into the laundry with a double door statement entry to make entering this room to do the laundry a pleasure rather than a punishment. The doors can be completely shut off to hide the mess or left wide open to increase the airflow and admire the tiles.

We love natural ventilation in a laundry so there’s a double-hung window above the sink and direct access to the outside and the washing line through a single door.
