SPOTLIGHT ON COLOUR: KEEN ON GREEN

BY BONNIE

Over the past few months, we’ve been busy designing our upcoming projects and choosing the perfect colours for each of them is a major decision in the design process. We’re working on Houses 12, 13 and 14 all at once and the pressure to lock in all our colour choices is on!

It’s well known that we love white homes but there’s definitely a time and a place for some bold colour choices. You might be shocked but my all-time favourite colour is actually green, not white, and it occurred to me when choosing colours for our latest project that it’s one I gravitate to in design too. Apart from just loving how it looks, I like that it’s a nod to nature and is used to represent harmony and safety – and who doesn’t want those assets in their home.

Green is a star player in the Dulux 2020 Colour Forecast and is growing in popularity in both fashion and interiors. The trend reports tell us that it will continue to do so over the coming years… which is great news for me. Viva la green!

MAKE A STATEMENT

When I’ve wanted to make a statement or create a feature in one of our projects, it’s often green I’ve turned to. We’ve used it in bedrooms, kitchens, living and bathrooms to bring a beautiful, fresh feel into the rooms.

The key for me is to combine your bold feature colour with crisp whites, black and neutrals to let the colour be the hero.

SOFTLY DOES IT

One of the things I love about the colour green is that it looks gorgeous no matter what the shade. If you’re afraid to make a bold statement or prefer a softer colour palette in your home, muted earthy greens are a beautiful way to inject some colour without the risk of tiring from a feature colour. I’m still in love with the minty green kitchen we did in House 5.

BLUE OR GREEN? OR SOMEWHERE IN-BETWEEN?

Sometimes getting the team to agree whether a paint colour is green… or actually blue…  is a bit like getting us on the same page about the colour of the dress that went viral a few years back. Remember that? Were you Team #blackandblue or Team #whiteandgold?

Luckily, when it comes to choosing paint colours, it doesn’t really matter. Call it what you like, all that matters is that you love it so much you want to live with it.

Green or blue? Tell us below.
