THE 2020 COLOUR TRENDS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT

It’s safe to say that we have a penchant for white at Three Birds HQ. Dulux White on White, Casper White Quarter, Lexicon Half… give us ALL the white! But that doesn’t mean we don’t love to use colour in our projects too – heck, check out the River Shack!

We get lots of colour inspo from the annual Dulux Trend Forecasts and, lucky for us, the clever peeps at Dulux have just released their 2020 forecast. If you’re renovating, get yourself on a need-to-know basis with these colours… pronto!

The 2020 forecast is named ‘Essence’ and aspires to help us “cut the distractions and create space for dreams to come alive.” It’s all about a yearning to step away from our busy modern lives, full of devices and multi-tasking and noise, and to create a sanctuary where we can relax and re-energise. #signusupalready

Essence features four colour palettes, all inspired by nature, and all damn gorgeous. Take a look for yourself…

COMEBACK

The Comeback palette features invigorating tonal blue shades, highlighted with warm tones of burgundy, rust and mustard that reinforce vintage storytelling. It hints at escape and adventure, encouraging us to step away from the drudgery of the day-to-day routine and embrace new thoughts and ideas. #stepawayfromthedishes #yesplease

CULTIVATE

Did you know that Bonnie’s favourite colour is actually green? #notwhite So, she’s going crazy for this tonal palette.

Cultivate is a calm and gentle layering of greens that reinforces our connection to nature. Chalky blue, deep plum and curd provide a contrast and unexpected edge. The Cultivate palette is one that will resonate with home enthusiasts – the colours and textures are easy to work with and have a warmth that conveys the essence of what ‘home’ really means.

GROUNDED

If this palette were a person it’d be Erin – soft, warm and uncomplicated.

Grounded is a medley of soft, livable neutrals, running from pale biscuit and caramel through to muddy lavender. Hints of terracotta add warmth. Many of the colours can be used as the main shade throughout your home, with gold and coral making for beautiful highlights.

INDULGE

It’s all about adding the drama… this one’s got Lana written all over it!

The Indulge palette features rich burgundy, eggplant, earthy browns, faded terracotta and soft coral. There’s a passion and excitement to this palette that’s hard to resist, adding drama to a space.
