LET’S GO PAINT! | HOUSE 5

By Lana

Have I told you that we’re using more colour than ever in this house!?  I think they must have changed the coffee granules at The Tuckshop cos Bonnie has gone a bit colour crazy. Don’t worry, we’re not talking bright fuschia or chartreuse, you’ll see Bon’s choices are still very liveable and will work beautifully with our predominantly white walls #snowdrop.

Can you guess which Taubmans colour will go where in the house?

THE ART OF CHOOSING YOUR GROUT COLOUR

Put your hand up if you think grout should match the tiles? Up until 18 months ago, that was me. I thought that was the obvious and only way to do it! But Bon kindly corrected me #shotmedown and showed me how grout colour is a crucial decision that can make or break a bathroom.

If you want your tiles to pop as individual tiles, choose a contrasting grout that clearly defines each tile. If you want your tiles to blend together and look like one big slab, match the grout to the tile as closely as you can.

HERE IS WHAT WE DID IN THE BATHROOMS AT HOUSE 5

In the ensuite, we used white grout on the feature wall to make the individual fish scales pop but for the half-wall and floor tiles we matched the grout to the tiles to look more like a large slab of concrete.

The main bathroom called for a different approach with us choosing a smokey grey grout for the herringbone subways to showcase the gorgeous pattern.  If we’d used white grout (as I would have 18 months ago), the herringbone effect would be completely different #verysubtle. For the mega-sized 1200 x 600 Statuario wall and floor tiles we used a pale grey grout.

THREE BIRDS HOT TIP | Test your grout colour by grabbing some spare tiles and pushing dry grout powder between the tiles to see how the grout will look when finished.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO LANDSCAPING STARTING... SOON I HOPE!
