After a few years renovating our personal Forever Homes (and wow, what an amazing experience that was), we've decided it was time to go back to our roots, with a quickie reno of an old-school Aussie eyesore. And of course, she's in our heartland - the Hills District of Sydney. This 60s home lacks all character and charm, it has no endearing features and absolutely zero street appeal - just what we were looking for! #uglyduckling
The home is on a nice-sized block of land (670 sqm) but the floor area is only 114 sqm which means there's just not enough house for modern day living where second lounge rooms and ensuites are the norm. So we're going to blow out the back of this lil' beauty with a bold extension to increase the liveable space indoors and we'll completely transform the backyard from desolate wasteland to an alfresco extravaganza. Oh and that awful facade!? #eek It's going to need some some real reno magic!
Join us on this journey as we try to give this ugly duckling the happy ending she deserves!
This is what we were working with....
If you love custom furniture, but canβt afford to splash your cash on fancy pants furnishings throughout your whole homeβ¦ we can help! We jumped on the #IKEAhack bandwagon back in House 3 with their Bergsbo wardrobe doors and then again we painted their beds in Bonnieβs Dream Home. You might just say weβre hooked on hacking.
This little ugly duckling of a house needed a lot of help in the roof department! The original tiles left a lot to be desired but we didnβt have the budget to splash the cash on a whole new roof. We wanted the extension to complement rather than contrast the original roof, so needed to find the perfect crown to sit atop this little black beauty.
Us Three Birds swear by the saying βthe devil is in the detailββ¦ because itβs true! Looking back on a renovation youβll never regret spending the time to get the details right. Weβre talking the little things, that you may not have even considered. Letβs take a look:
We know kitchens are at the top of many peopleβs reno wish list, but theyβre often at the bottom of the list when it comes to styling your home. Kitchens need love too, so please donβt forget to style yours! #forgetmenot
If youβre doing a full kitchen reno, or just want to freshen up your existing one, here are 5 ways to make your kitchen look pretty special
Itβs no secret that I love a good alfresco area and thatβs because I think it has the ability to make your house feel like a home you never want to leave. #holidayathome
When it came to choosing flooring for House 9 #theboldextension, it had to be both beautiful and family friendly.
Shut the bar door, can you believe weβre already up to Episode 5? #timeflieswhenyourehavingfun #finalenextmonday #wewontletyoudownlikethebachie
Doors and windows have a HUGE impact on the interior of your home but Iβm afraid to say theyβre often an afterthought for many renovators who get distracted by more glamorous decisions involving their kitchens, flooring and furniture. But long after those items have fallen out of fashion, your windows and doors will endure.
Do you have Champagne taste on a prosecco budget? #ustoo
We hear you, gang! Sometimes when weβre renovating it seems like thereβs a constanbattle against the budget, but when it comes to styling your home you donβt need to fret.
Weβre big fans of freedom for furnishings because theyβve got a huge range of gorgeous products that wonβt break the bank.
Watch how Bonnie styled the lounge in House 9, from sofas to sideboards, console tables, rugs and ba-zillions of cushions, we found it all at freedom.
