SINGAPORE FLING: EX-PAT FRIENDS UNITE IN RENO SCHOOL

It was her friend and fellow Reno Schooler, Debbie Wong, who first suggested Melanie Horner join Three Birds Reno School. And if Melanie’s latest project, Uma on Werri, is anything to go by, Debbie’s advice was spot on. Uma was completed in early December 2023 and the finished home is sensational.

My good friend Debbie Wong raved about the course when she was renovating Noa by the Beach in Noosa. The course supported her through such a steep learning curve and she built strong relationships with other students too.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER IN RENO SCHOOL

You might recognise Debbie’s name from our second book in which we featured her stunning beach house, Noa by the Beach. Debbie and Melanie are both ex-pats, living with their families in Singapore. Melanie hails from Gerringong on the South Coast of New South Wales and Uma on Werri (located in Gerringong) was designed as her family’s home away from home… lucky for us all, it’s available for holiday rentals too!

Melanie’s Vision Board, created in Three Birds Reno School

Melanie’s greatest challenge with design Uma, was the pool area and credits Reno School’s ‘Pool Party’ module as a lifesaver - “It was a godsend!” gave me a checklist of all the things I needed to research thoroughly before signing our pool contract.

I loved that the modules were presented in both a video and written format with resources/worksheets. The Three Birds are also inspiring! Fun, fashionable and so personable too and I love being part of the ‘flock’!

ALL ABOUT UMA

Uma means tranquillity, light and splendour in Sanskrit and Uma on Werri located at the northern end of Werri Beach, Gerringong exudes all three.

Just footsteps from the beach and a short walk to cafes, restaurants & boutiques, you’ll find Uma on Werri. The 7-bedroom, 7-bathroom holiday house has a heated pool, spa and all the designer touches you’d expect from a luxury holiday home.

Melanie describes the style of the home as “modern coastal” with “bright, breezy and beautiful” interiors which flow effortlessly from the open-plan living to the alfresco spaces, making it perfect for friends and families who want to slow down and spend quality time together.

Uma was designed to appeal to large families, multigenerational families, and couples who travel together or for corporate/lifestyle retreats.

Our aim was to create a warm and welcoming vibe, yet casual so that guests feel they can treat Uma on Werri as their own for the duration of their stay.

Melanie worked with interior stylist Jessi Eve to nail the relaxed and cohesive palette throughout the home which includes pops of colour throughout from the gorgeous palette of nude pink, olive, sage, and surf blue, offset with light-toned oak timbers, white, and neutral greys. We love the inclusion of painted bedroom doors so you’ll have no trouble finding which of the 7 bedrooms is yours!

Melanie’s Dream Team included: Mincove Homes (Builder), Jessi Eve - @jessi.eve (Interior Stylist) and photographer (Louise Wellington) - @lulu_wells
