HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR PERFECTLY PROPORTIONED PARENTS' RETREAT

When we’re writing our list of ‘must-haves’ for a beautiful house of this calibre, a super-luxe parents’ retreat is pretty high up on the list. The existing parents’ bedroom in this home was in a great spot on the top floor of the house, but it was just way too small. The ensuite was the teeniest we’ve ever seen, and the wardrobe was so small that the owners used the spare bedroom as their robe instead.

Our plan? To claim more floor space to turn the parents’ room into a parents’ retreat! Our goal? To make the owners feel like they’re on a European vacay every day.

Take a look at the highlights of this beautiful hideaway…

PRIME POSITION

So we mentioned the perfect position on the top level of the home, but have you seen the killer view? It’s the best in the house, for sure! Beautifully framed by mature trees, the sparkling sea view is just stunning, but there was nowhere to sit and appreciate it. What this room needed was a perfectly appointed built-in daybed and a new balcony to create zones to sit and soak up the view.

Feast your eyes on that daybed! It’s a real moment in the room. The arched window frames the view like a piece of art and the custom cushion with plush upholstery makes it a comfy spot to sit while you soak it all in.

The owners’ biggest daily dilemma with be whether to enjoy their morning coffee from here or to step outside onto the brand-new balcony to caffeinate (or meditate!). It seemed a crime not to be able to access the outdoors from this level of the home, and the bedroom and bathroom were crying out for some doors to fling open and let the outdoors in.

Speaking of doors, check out the super cute arched detail we added to the Stegbar doors. It’s little details like this that take a home to the next level. They’re in the gorgeous colour Dulux Coalition doors with beautiful, heavy solid cast brass handle lever handles from Domino. The Aged Brass finish is the perfect accent and complements the tapware finish in the ensuite.

MINIMALIST MALLORCA-INSPIRED BEDDING

Inspired by her travels to Mallorca, Bonnie styled this room in an authentic minimalist style. Daybed aside, the hero of the room is the sleek, low-lying Dawson Bed from Castlery. Its minimalist beauty blends in while standing out, and the polyester/linen blend cover gives it the look of linen but with extra durability.

Forget the masses of decorative cushions, we’ve styled this room in true #ModernMallorca style, complete with bed-making technique straight from a Mallorcan hotel room. No euro cushions in a Euro-inspired bedroom - oh the irony! Pared back and peaceful is where it’s at.

BATHING WITH A VIEW

There’s no view from the loo… because we reserved the best spot in the room for the bath. Imagine lying back here, vino on its very own shelf, and soaking in that vista.

There are his and hers vanities with custom Talostone fronts, so there’s no vying for bench space with your spouse, and if you’ve got a crush on curves, check out the fluted shower screen with its wavy profile.

The tapware colour is ‘Rustic Iron’, not as harsh black but solid and masculine all the same, in contrast to the warm neutral palette throughout the parents’ retreat. It’s all from Reece’s Milli range.

RUN IN ROBE

Why walk when you can run into your robe?! When it looks this good, your robe is a room you’ll want to spend time in so we added somewhere to sit, perfect for applying make-up or laying out your accessories. There’s also plenty of dedicated storage for clothes, shoes and jewellery and special glass display cases to show off your fave sunnies and stuff.

OH, THE GLOW!

As Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wands are to cheeks, Luxaflex Pirouette Shadings are to bedrooms. They bring ALL the glow! We’ve used these window coverings in our homes since way back at Lana’s place #House6. We love them for their elegant light control, transforming any room from bright light to darkness to glowy translucent gorgeousness.

In this parents’ retreat, we’ve hung them well above the arched window frames so that they’re out of sight when open, then they close at the touch of a button (yes, these ones are motorised #fancyschmancy) and pivot on command to achieve the ultimate glow.

Over the balcony doors and in the ensuite, we chose soft textural curtains, also from Luxaflex, to soften the rooms.

So, there you have it… a Parents’ ROOM turned Parents’ RETREAT. We’d love to know what you think of the transformation. Tell us below!
