AN INCREDIBLE ALPINE LODGE INSPIRED HOME ON THE GOLD COAST

Serial renovators, Reno Schooler Nicki Harms and her builder hubby, Paul, are well known for their renovation projects on the Gold Coast. He’s built many homes in the area and together they’ve completed about 10 renovations or new builds.

Straying from the coastal location and vibe of Burleigh Heads, the couple came across a home, perched in the hinterland near Tallebudgera, and immediately spotted the potential to turn it into a super-luxe lodge-style abode. They collaborated with their architect to create a vision that’s a stark contrast to their usual light, white and breezy, coastal style.

Renovating throughout the pandemic came with its challenges with access to materials and price increases across the board having consequences to the delivery of the project. But Nicki, Paul and their team soldiered on and the property was completed and sold in October this year.

SEE THIS STUNNER FOR YOURSELF…

Positioned on 1.4 acres, the gorgeous Kooringal Lodge combines alpine cabin-inspired architecture and mid-century modernism with stunning features of timber, black cladding and natural stone.

The four-bedroom house includes a separate studio, pool, glass wine cellar, timber staircase and sunken firepit.

🔥QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS🔥

We asked Nicki the nitty gritty on Kooringal Lodge and how Three Birds Reno School helped with the project. Here’s the inside goss…

How did Kooringal Lodge come about? Did you all intend to develop and sell?

We came across the home for sale and instantly fell in love with the block and location and thought with the right renovation it could be amazing. Our architect suggested a modern alpine lodge-style renovation and it ended up far bigger and better than we had anticipated. We are absolutely stoked with the final product.

REALITY

What's your favourite/room area at Kooringal Lodge?

The retreat area is my favourite. The raked ceiling, glass and amazing private view overlooking the bushland and creek is pretty special.

HOW DID THREE BIRDS RENO SCHOOL help your project?

Although we have built or completed quite a few renovations everything from my perspective is self-taught and completed independently. I felt I needed some extra help, information and inspiration and the Reno School provides this in a really non-judgmental, supportive environment.

What did you LOVE MOST ABOUT THE COURSE?

The Facebook community is amazing. There are so many great ideas, and participation (!!) and everyone is so positive and supportive. I was having trouble visualising the kitchen and master ensuite using a darker, more moody palette for Kooringal Lodge. I asked the Reno School community and I was flooded with so many amazing suggestions and inspiration pictures. I also love anything Bonnie, Erin and Lana do and the Reno School is no exception.

I used the student supplier discounts from Beacon for lighting.

Would you recommend Reno School to YOUR BESTIE?

Absolutely. It doesn't matter whether you have completed a lot of renovations or are on your first one there is something for everyone to benefit from. Thanks to the fun community that has been created by the Reno School. I love watching so many people creating amazing homes!
