HOW TO BEAUTIFY YOUR FAÇADE WITH A COSMETIC RENOVATION

A spray tan makes everything look better! Don’t you think?! Or is that just me???

House 11 was a real plain Jane when we first got our hands on her, but we knew she had so much potential behind her dowdy exterior. Here’s how we transformed the façade of this house:

BEFORE

BEFORE

1) Spray tan

You’d be forgiven for thinking she was a Love Island contestant with that tan-doori brick colour! This lil lady needed a much classier shade to set the tone for this #colourmehamptons abode. We looked at (what felt like) 50 shades of grey! Bon was able to narrow it down to four options and then we painted big swatches on the house.

In the end the gorgeous Dulux Grey Pail was the winner. It’s the perfect choice if you’re looking for a light grey with very little undertone. It has a slightly silver appearance without the metallic sheen. We sprayed the entire exterior and then contrasted the trims, front door & fence with our fave Dulux White on White

Spraying your bricks is one of the easiest ways to transform your home and our go-to hack when we need a budget friendly wow factor.

2) Makeup

Now we’ve got a good base, it was time to pretty her up with some details. The best thing you can ever do to a property on a main road is to add a fence. It makes a physical divide between the road and your home and defines your front yard. We also added an arbour to define the entrance way and make her look extra fancy.

A boring concrete porch is hardly welcoming so we replaced it with encaustic look feature tiles. And because nothing shouts ‘Hamptons’ like cladding, we added Stria cladding from James Hardie over the brick work on the top storey. It complements the brick below and adds character.

3) some Eyelashes

I always think of windows as the eyes of the house. They say that eyes are windows to the soul, so these eyes needed some eyelashes added to make anyone want to look through them and see her beautiful soul! The current windows were fine, they were just in need of some accenting, to make them pop. Axent from James Hardie is a thick trim that’s easily attached around existing window frames. It’s made from a fibre cement product so it has the added benefit of being hard-wearing and low maintenance.

The new front door from Parkwood is extra wide and extra spesh, with paned glass to match the rest of the windows.

4) New hairdo

This old bird needed more than just a hair dye. We’d usually paint an existing roof if it’s in good condition, but this one had seen much better days, so she got a whole new ‘do.

The Horizon roof tile from Monier is the ultimate flat concrete tile because it seamlessly blends with the existing house and looks like it’s been there forever – in a good way! We can’t go past the colour ‘Salt Spray’, we used it at my place and then Bon’s and it’s a winner for this home too.

5) Add some bling

Never forget to accessorise! The pots on the porch, hanging swing, new porch lights, stepping stones from the street to the house… these are the little details that make all the difference.

And voila! Who’s a hottie now?
