We worked with the fabulous Phil at Concept Pools to design our biggest pool yet. But is it our best? Take a close up look and let us know what you think!

At a whopping 12 x 4.5 metres, it’s our largest pool ever, but anything smaller would have been totally swamped by the house and the sprawling 5 acres of land.

The fabulous size means there’s room for a sizeable, curved, ankle-deep β€˜landing pad’ (aka swim-out, aka cocktail-steps) for younger kids to frolic or adults to sit with a drink and soak up the sun. Check out the amazing curved steps which make for a graceful entry into the pool and the blade edge which gives the visual effect of an infinity pool, through to the view of the lush green bush.

With lots of little people jumping in and out of the pool, we wanted a lining that’s as smooth as can be, without being slippery. Phil recommended a glass bead lining to achieve this feel and it would also help us get the perfect colour.

There’s no exact science to the exact ratio of colours when it comes to mixing glass beads so we’re happy to put this decision in the capable hands of Phil and the team at Concept Pools. They’re masters of mixing just the right combo (50% light blue and 50% clear Jewels 4 Pools FI50 glass beads in this case) to achieve the finished colour of the pool inspo pics we show them.

For the pool coping we used a gorgeous travertine look tile from TileCloud, named especially for this project: Annangrove French Pattern Ivory Travertine Look. It comes in varying sizes which makes it perfect for the pool surrounds, coping and waterline tiling.

A pool fence is a must in Australia and we made this one as seamless as possible for an uninterrupted view of the bush. It’s frameless and recessed into the concrete slab so there’s not a spigot in sight!

mineral swim system

We already knew from Bonnie’s and Lana’s pools that mineral water is the absolute bomb for a luxe swimming experience. Mineral pools use natural magnesium, making the water soothing and therapeutic. There are no harsh chemicals and the water feels seriously softer and smoother.

At House 13 we chose the Maytronics Mineral Swim system. It’s the only system that uses minerals from the Dead Sea to make the water feel soft and moisturising… and your skin will feel the same.

The natural magnesium ingredients not only feel good but magnesium is known to have calming and healing effects on sensitive skin, especially for sufferers of eczema, and can make your whole body feel rejuvenated.

Better still, there’s no stinky chlorine smell or stinging eyes because Mineral Swim uses β€˜Ozone’ which is a naturally occurring element that works with the minerals and reacts with oxygen to purify and sanitise water. So the water looks crystal clear too!

Swimming really is a pleasure in magnesium-rich minerals rather than synthetic chemicals.

VACATION VIBES

At the shallow end, we’ve allowed a generous 4 metres of space from the pool edge to the fence to create a lounging zone.

When you’re done swimming, there’s plenty of room to relax on the oversized Freedom Cannes Sun Loungers under the shade of the Basil Bangs fringed umbrellas.

Sit back, chill and enjoy those vacay vibes.
