STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: FREYA'S FABULOUS FIRST FLIP

Holy Mother of terrific transformations! You’ll hardly believe your eyes when you see these before and after photos - or your ears when we tell you that this is Reno School student Freya White’s very first flip project.

Kiwi yoga and pilates teacher turned interior designer, Freya, joined forces with her mum, Karen, for their first flip. And they’ve hit it out of the ballpark! The dynamic mother/daughter duo drew inspiration and skills from different eras to pull off a full home renovation that took them under 6 months from start to sale. #dreamteam

Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, is known for its white sandy beach and chilled vibes so Freya’s vision for a relaxed, organic, coastal, beachside sanctuary fitted perfectly with the area.

The challenge? Transforming this humble clinker brick home into the beach abode you see above! #maythespraygunbewithyou

BEFORE: This style of home is typical of those found in the New Zealand beachside suburb of Mount Maunganui

The exterior of the house is clinker bricks which are quite common for homes of this era in the area. Spraying the bricks white was a given but Freya and her mum started out by attempting to remove the rough profile of the clinker bricks. Realising this was going to take forever, they decided to embrace the bumps and spray over the top which resulted in a textured surface that looks like it was just meant to be.

The vertical cedar cladding was added to bring even more texture and a bit of warmth to the predominantly white facade.

AFTER: White paint and cedar cladding bringing all the coastal vibes

Coastal properties cry out for outdoor entertaining areas and you’re spoilt for choice for where to sit, eat, drink and dine at this home.

Are we the only ones who had to do a double-take at the pictures below? Holy moly, that’s the same space before and after Freya & Karen’s magic touch. #uglyducklingnomore

BEFORE: Overgrown and wasted space

AFTER: Zjooshed up and ready to party

TAKE A LOOK INSIDE…

Step inside the property and you’re cocooned by neutral tones, organic textures, natural timber and a totally relaxed beachside feel.

Freya and Karen created this home to sell so kept the colours neutral which is always a great idea for broad appeal. Their impeccable styling brings the coastal beach abode vision to life and had prospective buyers swooning.

When Freya’s not designing or renovating, you’ll find her teaching yoga and pilates at her own studio. We can’t wait to see what Freya gets up to next! You can follow along at: @aya.interiordesign
