HOW WE RECREATED A HOTEL SUITE AT HOME

Have you ever loved a hotel suite so much you wanted to take it home with you? Us too! That’s why we created this main bedroom to give you all the luxe vacay vibes the moment you enter through the double doors. Come, have a look around…

Spanning the whole width of the upstairs, the parents’ retreat encompasses the main bedroom, walk-in-robe, sitting area, ensuite bathroom and balcony. It’s like none we’ve seen in a project home before!

The WAlk-In-Robe

Enter the robe through the whimsy Luxaflex curtains and the first thing you’ll notice is the built-in bench seat (super handy for pulling on shoes or laying out outfits), complete with storage drawers underneath and a wall light and artwork - because practical spaces can be pretty too. The robe itself has a great combo of long and short hanging rails, shelves and drawers.

It’s lined with plush carpet which we love in a bedroom and robe for the soft and warm feel underfoot when you step out of bed. We chose a textured loop pile carpet from EC Carpets called Quinn Street, in the colour ‘Summerford’. It’s a solution-dyed nylon which means it’s colourfast and highly resistant to fading. It is also extremely wear-resistant so perfect for a family home.

Unfortunately, Candice’s clothing collection isn’t included!

The SITTING AREA

Nothing screams plush hotel like a sitting area in the middle of the suite.

We used a plush rug to create a distinct zone for lounging and popped the ‘his and hers’ boucle swivel chairs from Lounge Lovers smack bang in the middle of the space. They spin to let you choose a view of the TV, bedroom or balcony.

The ENSUITe

A skylight over the bath is one of the easiest design decisions we made. It floods the room with light during the day and gives a peek of the stars at night. Bonnie and Lana swear by the skylights over their showers so we knew a bathroom skylight needed to be a feature in our Dream Home too.

You might recognise the House 13 inspo in this ensuite layout? The toilet and shower are tucked behind each end of the partitioned wall with the freestanding bath in the centre of the room. The tapware, all from Reece, is the same gorgeous brushed gold we’ve used throughout the house, including the slimline floor mounted bath mixer which is a feature in itself.

Tile Cloud came to the party, once again, to bring the luxe vibes to the ensuite. The Carrara marble look 600x600mm tiles smother the walls and floors to create the elegant look you’d expect from a high-end hotel bathroom.

We paired them with a feature tile on the wall behind the bath. While you’re bathing you can have a break, have a kit kat… tile that is. These matt white kit kats come in sheets for easy laying and we love them as a modern alternative to the more traditional subway tile.

The Balcony

Welcome to Erin’s favourite part of the whole parents’ retreat… the balcony! Raise the Duette shadings, draw the Luxaflex curtains, fling open the doors to reveal a whole other usable space. It’s a totally unexpected addition to the main bedroom and such a good surprise. Candice and Drewe are lucky enough to have a view of the Sydney skyline from their balcony and we can see it being a favourite spot for a morning coffee, to catch some weekend rays with a book… or hide from the kids during lockdown!
