LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS

As you know by now, Louisa, the lady of the house, is also Bonnie’s right-hand woman at Three Birds Renovations. We love to work together on our latest projects over sushi and samples at Three Birds HQ but the reality is that we’re still working from home a lot too so, a dedicated study to separate work from home was a must in this build.

But one study just wasn’t going to cut it! Louisa’s hubby also needs a space to work so we created two distinctly different studies with the needs of their respective users in mind.

Let’s get down to business…

HER STUDY

Lou’s study is positioned right in the hub of the home, just to the right of the front entry. It’s pretty much the engine room of this house. Even with the glass french doors shut, she can see all the action while she pays the bills, orders school lunches and finishes off some work.

Our vision was to create a study that oozes sophisticated charm and feminine vibes - a space that’s really a joy for Lou to work in.

The colour combo

A chunky chair rail from Intrim divides the room horizontally, which gave us the perfect opportunity to introduce a feature colour into the room. Bon and Lou had a dusky green in mind and after many samples, Dulux Cat Mint was the clear winner. Check out how perfectly it works with the pops of pink in the furniture and styling items.

Green and pink are one of our fave colour combos and it’s not by chance. They’re opposing colours on the colour wheel, so it makes sense that they complement each other beautifully.

The furniture

We love a desk that doesn’t look like a desk, so a dining table like this 6-seater from Object X, works fabulously, paired with a comfy chair from Oz Design. It does mean that there’s no in-desk storage so we added a freestanding cabinet from Provincial Home Living just behind the desk, with plenty of space for all Lou’s stationery and ‘stuff’.

Top tip: Try putting your desk in the center of the room so you don’t have a view of the wall! You’ll have a much better outlook when you position it like this.

The rest of the furniture isn’t typically office-like either. The stunning bone inlay dresser from Lounge Lovers would make a gorgeous chest of drawers in any bedroom but also adds storage and glam good looks to this room. Just like the marble and gold nested tables from Oz Design.

the styling pieces

Creative minds thrive in creative environments so we thought outside the (glass) box when styling Louisa’s workspace. Incense, candles, shells and bowls all bring the feminine charm we were looking for into this study.

Fun fact: of all the rooms in Louisa’s home, this one’s Bonnie’s favourite!

HIS STUDY

Louisa’s hubby’s study is tucked away in the space above the garage, removed from the hustle and bustle of the main house. Throughout this home, we used Gyprock Superchek to line the walls, and it comes in particularly handy for rooms where more noise control is desired, like this quiet workplace.

The colour combo

The walls are painted Dulux Lexicon, like the majority of the house, but there’s a distinctly masculine vibe in this room, created by the pops of black, brown, green and gold we’ve introduced via the furniture and styling items.

The furniture

The double desks are actually lovely Lounge Lovers marble dining tables, paired with rattan chairs from Oz Design. In this case, we’ve pushed the ‘desks’ up against the wall to maximise light and floor space in this loft. We also love the way the natural light streams in through the windows and onto the desks. Speaking of light, these gorgeous wall lights from Beacon make a great alternative to desk lamps for task lighting in a study.

In the centre of the room, there’s a sitting area for meetings, with a statement black coffee table alongside the black bar cart, and a black and rattan buffet, all from Oz Design.

the styling pieces

Black, brown, green and gold is where it’s at in this room. Sometimes styling a masculine space can be a little more tricky because our go-to items like pretty florals, fragrant candles and shells generally skew more feminine.

We chose styling items like a chunky green candelabra and matching vase from Clo Studios, a tortoiseshell vase from Oz Design with greenery and a brass candle from Cocolux.

So, tell us what you think! Which office would you choose to get down to business?
