Too many rookie renovators get caught out by failing to select important fixtures and fittings early enough. This can mean they don’t get exactly what they want OR they end up delaying the completion date. Even worse, it can cost more money. #doublewhammy #yuck

There is a checklist of items you need to get moving on quickly (which we share in detail in The Reno School) – and, believe it or not, window coverings are one of them! Most people don't choose their window coverings ‘til last, which can prove to be a real missed opportunity.  Say whaaat? Why on earth should anyone be locking in their window coverings at the same time as their wall linings and lighting?  I'll tell you why .... because blinds aren’t what they used to be. There are so many wondrous options available these days that just 10 mins in a Luxaflex showroom can have you feeling like Charlie in Willy Wonka's factory! #overstatement? #ithinknot. You can now get amazing motorised window shades that open automatically with the rising of the sun, ones that can illuminate a room and even blinds you can walk through (wait til you see them in House 9).

But - and here's the big but - there's no point identifying all the window candy you DESIRE, only to discover you can't HAVE any of it because you left this decision too late in the renovating process #FAILEDIT.

You have to plan for window coverings early for two main reasons:

1. Budget

Create a line item in your budget now called WINDOW COVERINGS and get some quotes nice and early so you know what the blinds of your dreams are going to cost you. The last thing you want is to complete your beautiful home reno and then only be able to afford some crummy plastic venetians because you forgot to budget for blinds. Get down to your local Luxaflex showroom to see what’s available as soon as you can and start the juices flowing!

2. Planning

Take your reno plans with you and the amazing team at Luxaflex will talk you through structural and electrical requirements you might never have even considered. If you want motorised blinds (and trust me, you might!), the electrics for them should ideally be roughed-in BEFORE the wall linings go on. That's a super-early stage of your reno people, so just make sure window coverings are on your To Do List along with windows, wall linings and your electrical plan.
